The study on Patterns of In-Migration to North-Western India, 2001-2011 is a significant contribution to the field of migration studies in population geography. The present study is an essential and complex aspect highlighting the gaps in socio-economic development. The areas of high socio-economic development pull people from lower social and economic levels. The North-Western region of India is no exception to this. It is one of the most developed regions. This study attempts to study the pattern of in-migration to northwestern India as a region. The data for the present study is derived from migration tables of Census of India 2001 and2011.ArcGIS software is used to depict the spatial patterns of migration. The entire study is divided into four chapters. The first chapter deals with volume of in-migrants by sex and residence from other regions of India from 2001-2011. The second chapter deals with the volume of in-migrants by various streams along with patterns of each stream of migration since 2001. The third chapter discusses various reasons for migration to North Western India from 2001 to 2011. The fourth chapter is based on a field study to understand different aspects of migration at the micro level. The study findings reveal that the number of migrants in the northwestern region is the highest in India. The majority of in-migrants in the region are male and adults. Most of the in-migrants are engaged in the unorganized sector as unskilled workers. newline
