Abstract: | ABSTRACT newlineIntroduction: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both (American Diabetes Association [ADA], 2004).The study aimed to assess the effectiveness of Information, education and communication on diabetes related quality of life, glycemic control and physical activity among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methodology: This Randomized controlled trial study was conducted in two block Primary health centres among200 T2DM patients and equally assigned to experimental group (100) who received IEC and control group (100) who received only routine care. The study tools include D-39 QoL questionnaire; FBS, PPBS and HbA1c values estimation; and International Physical activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) long form. T2DM patients were followed up at the end of 1st month and 3rd month of the intervention. Results: The baseline to posttest 2 comparison mean scores in all the domains of DRQoL and overall evaluation of QoL; and PPBS values between the groups were statistically significant at p=0.000; and in case of HbA1cthe mean difference between the groups was statistically significant at p=0. 010. The pretest to posttest 2 comparison scores of physical activity between the groups was statistically significant at plt0.001.A significant negative correlation between the posttest scores of all the five domains of DRQoL and physical activity was seen at pand#8804;0.001. The pretest mean scores of the domains such as social burden, sexual functioning and Energy and mobility; HbA1c and physical activity had a statistically significant association with selected demographic variables of experimental group. The present study had shown that IEC had a positive impact on DRQoL, Glycemic control and physical activity among the experimental group. newline newline newline |
