Development of a Model to Enhance Emotional Intelligence to Mitigate Employee Alienation in Indian Higher Education Institutions

Abstract

In today s world, Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are challenged to confront the impact of newlineglobal accreditation and rankings as well as policy changes posed by the Government in parallel. newlineTherefore, a positive emotional state of employees with enhanced performance are critical to the newlinesuccess of HEIs. In this scenario, Emotional Intelligence (EI) and Employee Alienation (EA) are newlinedeemed as critical components in employee performance. However, there is limited literature on newlineEI and EA to evaluate Job Performance (JP) from Indian HEI perspective. This study examines the newlineinfluence of employee EI on EA. In particular, EA s impact on JP in Indian HEIs is analysed. Further, newlinethe mediating effect of Negative Emotions (NEM) and Positive Emotions (PEM) with moderating newlineeffect on Level of Employment (Teaching and Non-Teaching) pertaining to EI-EA relationship are newlineinvestigated with special reference to Indian HEIs.
