Content Analysis Of Library Websites A Study With Special Reference To Agricultural Universities In India

Abstract

Agricultural Universities are major partners in the growth and development of Agricultural Research and Education in India. In order to improve the effectiveness of information services for education, research and extension activities, many universities and their libraries offering services through the Internet and websites. Libraries are functioning as key agencies in the virtual delivery of digital information resources. The university libraries not only intend to provide information services to the entire university, but it should extend the services to the remote users. Therefore, websites can be used as an effective medium to cater to the needs of a wide variety of users located in different geographical regions. Hence, proposed a study that can enable to re-define the library services using websites. newline newline The study examined the availability of Library websites in Agricultural Universities in India and evaluated the maintenance and updation system of the Library websites. It analysed the function of Library websites as clearing centre of Information, including conventional counter services of libraries and also to know whether the Library websites providing services as per the commonly accepted standards and followed content management system?. The study observed the good services and best practices prevailing in the library websites and suggested a model system of library website with regard to maintenance, data security, services, etc. Methodology adopted was that all Agricultural Universities in India (56 nos.) have been identified for the study. Designed a checklist to evaluate the structure, content, services, maintenance, updation, security etc. of the library websites of newlineagricultural universities in India on the basis of standards, guidelines, directions etc. given by UNESCO, Library Associations, IT Professionals, Librarians etc.
