Abstract: | Globalization and modernization have created an increasingly newlinediverse and interrelated world It has compelled all the organizations to move newlinetowards a new phenomenon competency To make sense of and function well newlinein this world individuals need to master the changing technologies and to newlinemake sense of large amounts of available information In these perspective newlinethe competencies that individuals need to meet their objective have become newlinemore complex requiring more than the mastery of certain narrowly defined newlineskills newlineCompetencies are becoming a frequent in organizational newlineApplications Competency can be defined as an underlying characteristic newlinerequired to perform a given task activity or role Three factors that are newlineimportant for identifying competency in a person are Knowledge Skills and newlineAttitude Competencies are generally identified by experts HR specialists job newlineAnalysts psychologists etc Competency differs from industry to industry and newlinefrom department to department In organizational context competency newlinerequired for a particular job depends on many factors These factors include newlinesocial cultural nature of business business environment organizational newlineculture work environment organizational structure duties and newlineresponsibilities nature of processes assigned activities attitude of superior newlineand subordinates These changes calls for implementation of competency newlinemapping which again demands the evaluation of the existing skills to locate newlinethe existence of the competencies in the individuals newline newline |
