Abstract: The present study has tried to focus on socio-economic condition of unorganised lock industry workers in Aligarh district of Western Uttar Pradesh. The research is carried out with an intention to explore various factors including government policies which are very crucial in impacting the socio economic condition of unregulated lock industry workers of Aligarh. As the number of units and workers in different industries were very large, so a recourse has been taken to the sampling method for collecting data and information and further,to obtain accuracy at the maximum extent, moderate sampling size in both units and workers has been kept. To obtain an overall picture of these unorganised sectors and to highlight the socio-economic condition of workers, information was collected by conducting schedules and personal interviews. These questionnaires are related to various aspects such as nature of employment and their wage structure, family budgets, education of children, health and sanitation facilities and government welfare measures etc. In some cases, correct and complete information could not be obtained due to indifferent and biased nature of both owners and workers. The collection of data was mostly carried out by personal investigation and information was supplemented by secondary sources also which include Directorate of Industries, District Industries Office, Census of India and other states, published materials, reports and research papers etc. newlineI have attempted to analyse the causes which are responsible for the grim condition workers in these unorganised industries and tried to suggest some practical solutions based on my personal survey and observations. This study has got its importance as it has tried to draw the attention towards the neglected workers toiling in the unorganised lock industries and is in dire need of immediate and effective attention of Government, political leaders and social reformers. This is the main reason which motivated me to study the socio economic condition of workers in the unorganised lock industries in a limited field of Aligarh so that some concrete results could be obtained. Based on my findings, I could extend some effective and practical suggestions for ameliorating their socio economic conditions so that their platform of prestige and reputation can be enhanced. newline newline
