Abstract: | The present research work to investigate the anti-cancer activity of methanolic extract of Bergenia ciliata along with its isolated bioactive compound by conducting in-vivo studies. Prepared extract of selected plant and performed anticancer activity using DMBA-Induced Skin Carcinogenesis Model. The in-vivo antioxidant activity of selected extract supports the results of anticancer activity. To understand the anti-carcinogenic potency of test material DMBA/croton oil induced mouse skin papilloma is used as an experimental model. In this model, DMBA acts as initiator and croton oil which contains the most active phorbol ester, 12-o-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA) promotes further carcinogenic processes. Lipid peroxidation results in changes in permeability and fluidity of membrane and protein degradation rises which leads to cell lysis. The end products of lipid peroxidation like malondialdehyde (MDA), a mutagen and carcinogen are known to induce cellular damage and have been responsible for oxidative free radical induced human disease. superoxide dismutase and glutathione GSH showed significant increasing levels of antioxidant effect. The isolated compound was found more effective than the extracts (200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg) on LPO,GSH and SOD. |
