Abstract: Handball is a rigorous contact sport with different skills and techniques. Therefore, different skills play an important role while playing. One of the essential skills is shooting. It is used for scoring goals during the competition. Scoring a goal makes a significant difference in winning or losing a match. Shooting with maximum velocity and accuracy towards the goal helps a player score easily. Therefore if we get to know the factors which directly affect the throwing velocity of handball, it becomes easy for coaches to improve the shooting performance of the handball players. newlineTo develop a model for estimating throwing velocity based on selected anthropometric, physiological, and performance characteristics of handball players. newlineFor the selection of the sample, G-power software was used. For obtaining the accurate sample size for this study, the researcher has set the number of predictors as 12, effect size as a medium, the level of significance as 0.05, and power as .80. By predefining these values, 127 was obtained as a sample size. Then 127 female west-zone intervarsity handball players from different universities were selected. The data collection procedure was done on a handball court and Sports Biomechanics laboratory of Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education. The Bushnell radar gun was used for measuring throwing velocity. The predictors selected for this study were Standing height, Bodyweight, hand size, arm length, lean body mass, fat percentage, Speed, Explosive strength of the shoulder, grip strength, leg strength, back strength, and jump height. All these variables were measured by using different instruments like a stadiometer, weighing machine, non-stretchable tape, 30mts sprint test, medicine ball throw test (3kg), handgrip dynamometer, back and leg dynamometer, and BTS G-Sensor.
