Abstract: Men and women are considered as two sides of a coin. They both are integral part of the newlinesociety. Without woman a society can t survive. Our great history also corroborated the same newlinefact. Despite all these, women are always neglected in every sphere of life. Being worked for newlinemore than five years in the field of journalism, the researcher wanted to know the reasons for the newlinepresent status of women journalists in Odisha. The personal experience of the researcher while newlineworking in various media organisations has helped to decide the research topic. There were no newlinesuch prior studies done in Odisha. No data are available either from the government sources or newlinefrom the media on the number of women journalists working in media in Odisha. The researcher newlinehas made an extensive survey of the media houses across Odisha to get the total number of newlinewomen journalists working in various media houses in Odisha. The present study on the newlineprofessional status of working women journalists of Odisha is an attempt made to bring out the newlineproblems these women are experiencing and the reasons thereof. This study has covered women newlinejournalists working in print, electronic and online media. Online news portals have been for the newlinefirst time studied under this research in Odisha. In the Chapter-I (Introduction), the researcher has discussed the importance of women in newlinethe society including the status of women in different time period in India and Odisha too. Apart newlinefrom that, information on the work participation of women has also been covered. This chapter newlinehas also discussed on the role of women journalists around the world. Women journalists status newlinein Indian media in general and in Odisha media in particular have been also covered. Chapter-II newlinecontains the survey of related literatures. The researcher has reviewed literature from various newlinejournals, thesis, articles, books, websites and other sources related to status of women, working newlinewomen, women in news room and especially gender bias in newsroom.
