Abstract: | Population growth, pressure for higher standard of living induce industrialization and increases the demand for agricultural land, energy, water resources and intensifies the problems of managing and disposing waste production. These are associated with a series of serious environmental changes including forest depletion, declining soil fertility, desertification and loss of biodiversity, water and air pollution. This doctoral dissertation deals with hardship of village community in an industrially developing region of India. Availability of food and income security is the determinant of human welfare which in turn is determined by the extent and nature of industrial and agricultural development. It is therefore necessary to consider the different dimensions of the hardship associated with environment and development. Industrialization is perceived as an inseparable part of economic development. The benefits of industrial production can be seen in all aspects of life which ranges from the wide range of consumer goods available, to the efficiency of transportation systems, to the astounding advances made in computers and communication technology. It not only creates direct and indirect employment opportunities, but also generates foreign exchange earnings and tax revenues. newlineThe industrial and technological progress assisted and abetted by both needs and greed of man, however has contributed towards growth of negative impact on the environment in terms of its pollution and degradation and loss of livelihood through forced displacement. So, this study basically concentrates on the issues of positive externality in general and negative links particularly relating to industrialization. |
