Over the last few decades, advances in the development of clinical newlineorthopedics, particularly joint replacement treatments have been rapid. The newlinefrequency of joint replacement procedures performed in India has increased at an newlineexponential rate over the past several years. Millions of individuals throughout the newlineworld have recovered from joint replacement as a surgical treatment for final newlinestage osteoarthritis. India has a population of 1.2 billion of people, with a large newlinenumber of people suffering from knee and hip joint problems. Total Knee newlineReplacement (TKR) and Total Hip Replacement (THR) are perhaps the most newlinefrequently utilized surgical procedures for arthritis around the world and their use in newlineIndia is increasing. When compared to a hip prosthesis, the knee prosthesis that has newlinea shallow bearing where the issue of wear is not that significant but hip newlineprosthesis which has a very deeper bearing hence the issue of wear should be newlineseriously addressed in the case of THR. Several studies have reported that the THR newlineis expected to expand drastically from 75% to 284% during the period from 2025 to newline2040. Out of which the major failure reported in THR is the aseptic loosening (64%) newlineof the implant due to the wear of acetabular plastic liner of hip joint. Numerous newlineresearches are being carried out in the field of biomaterials for improving the life and newlinereliability of acetabular cup to have better mechanical, tribological and bio-compatible newlinecharacteristics. Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) because of newlineits excellent mechanical and tribological properties has acquired fame in orthopedics newlineand is widely used as a material for acetabular cup of hip implant newline
