Abstract: | In some major states, the national parties are marginalised and they have joined hands with the regional parties. Even sometimes, the regional parties become the important actor in central government and their role cannot be ignored at any time. Under this backdrop, an attempt is being made for an in-depth study on the regional political parties of Odisha from 1997 to 2014.The study consists of the component as conceptual framework of Regional Parties, the historical perspective: the Indian scenario, the era of single Regional Party dominance (1997-2014): The Odishan spectrum, Objectives of the study, scope of the study, the Area of study limited to 3 districts in coastal and 3 in hilly region of Odisha. The 600 voters and 200 political leaders from grassroot to Assembly and Parliament belonging to various political parties covered by face to face interview. The study has taken certain important research questions. The study on regional parties and politics has thrown upon some hypotheses which have been empirically verified. The present study Regional Political Parties in Odisha: A Study from 1997 to 2014 has 6 chapters. The Major Findings of the study are briefly explained and conclusion drawn. The study has focused attention on the political socialization of voters and leaders, their knowledge on the problems of underdevelopment of the state, the leadership style and their role performance in articulating the aspirations of the people in projecting the regional needs and demands for the overall development of their respective regions. It emphasized the role of major regional parties in Odisha from 1997 to 2014.The study can add some knowledge to an important area of enquiry in Social Science. newline |
