Abstract: The government has established various programs for improving the quality of education in schools and the School Management Committee (SMC) is one of them. There was a need to clarify the roles and practices of the SMC and to provide insight into how to make judgments about school and community improvement. newlineThe purpose of the present research is to study Quality Improvement Initiatives in public funded schools of Delhi through School Management Committees. For the accomplishment of the study, a total of twelve public funded schools under the Government of NCT of Delhi managed by two districts were selected. The data collection was undertaken in six Government Schools from each district. The study was also delimited to 96 SMC members and 96 non-members in the selected twelve schools. The data was collected by a self-developed questionnaire and was analyzed by computing frequency and percentage distribution. The results show that the schools are in pucca form and double-storeyed with fire safety management. The schools have sufficient number of classrooms with proper ventilation, appropriate desks, and black boards, but were not sure of having smart boards and LCD projectors. The respondents were not sure of having essential equipment required within the labs; the schools have safe drinking water and separate washroom facilities for males and females with hand washing facilities. They were not sure about having music rooms with equipment, drawing rooms and art rooms within the school. The schools were found to have adequate arrangements to provide mid-day meal to the students. It was observed that free supply of textbooks was given in the schools and children received books on a timely basis. A combination of various methods was adopted by the teachers for the students learning. Also, regular homework assignments were given to students for better learning and understanding, but they were not sure for usage of audio-visual aids and play way method in the school.
