Abstract: | The ever increasing demand for conventional energy sources has newlinedriven society towards the need for research and development of alternative newlineenergy sources Many such energy sources such as wind energy and newlinephotovoltaic are now well developed cost effective and are being widely newlineused while others such as fuel cells are in their advanced developmental newlinestage The focus in this work is on small size wind energy system Wind newlineenergy is said to be one of the most prominent sources of electrical energy in newlineyears to come Due to the environmental and economical reasons the newlinepenetrations of wind energy in power systems is rapidly increasing newlineworldwide It is predicted that by 2020 up to 12 of the world s electricity newlinewill be supplied from wind power The impacts of wind energy on power newlinegrids is better understood at present compared to a decade but its newlineintegration into power grids continues to be a topic that receives a newlineconsiderable amount of interest in the international community There are newlinedifferent Wind Energy Conversion System WECS configurations based on newlineusing synchronous or asynchronous machines The control methods newlinedeveloped for WECS are usually divided as fixed speed methods and variable newline speed methods The Fixed Speed WECS FSWECS is an easy and low cost newlinemethod which is designed to obtain maximum efficiency at one wind speed newlinethat will give the optimum tip speed to wind speed ratio newline newline |
