dc.description.abstract | Adjustable Speed Induction Motor Drives ASIMDs have become newlinevery popular variable speed control devices used in industrial commercial newlineand some residential applications ASIMDs allow precise speed control of a newlinestandard induction motor and can result in significant energy savings and newlineimproved process control in many applications newlineModern solid state Induction motor drives are highly sensitive to newlinevoltage sag Voltage sag is the most important PQ problem affecting newlineindustrial and large commercial customers and some cases it leads to newlineshutdown problems in industry newlineVoltage Sag is defined as a momentary decrease in the RMS voltage newlinewith a duration ranging from half a cycle up to 50 cycles The most frequent newlinesource of voltage sag is a transient current increase which is caused by fault newlineconditions within the plant or power system and lasts until the fault is cleared newlineby a fuse or breaker On the utility side the fault condition may be a result of newlinelightning wind contamination of insulators animal contacts or accidents newlineSimilarly failures in the plant or the starting of large motors can lead to newlinevoltage sag newline newline | en_US |
