Alcohol is one of the endocrine-disrupting chemicals that is widely abused by the population in the world. The ill effect of this compound has been largely investigated in face of growing evidence regarding the relationship between exposure to these compounds and the increase in male reproductive disorders. Plant-derived bioactive compounds interact with the proteins, DNA and other biomolecules to produce the desired outcome especially in the treatment of male infertility. ARGYREIA NERVOSA (Elephant Creeper) is well known for its aphrodisiac potential, but there is a lack of scientific support on its protective role in alcohol-induced reproductive toxicity. newlineThe objective of the present study was to evaluate the protective effect of ARGYREIA NERVOSA on male reproductive tissues changes in ethanol intoxicated male albino rats. The male albino rats were divided into six groups consists of five animals each. Group I - water and pellets; Group II - water, pellet and ethanol with sucrose; Group III - water, pellet and sucrose; Group IV - water, pellet, ethanol with sucrose, Naltrexone 50mg/kg of body weight; Group V - water, pellet, ethanol with sucrose, and Plant extract (AN) 100mg/kg of body weight, Group VI - water, pellet, ethanol with sucrose and Plant extract (AN) 300mg /kg of bodyweight.. newlineIn the case of Group II rats treated with ethanol and showed a significant reduction in body weight, reduction in the level of testosterone and elevation of FSHand LH was observed. There was a significant reduction in seminal fructose level, sperm count and rapid linear motility and a significant elevation in slow and non-progressive sperm motility associated with increased abnormal sperm morphology were observed. Deteriorated histopathological changes in the testis, epididymis, and prostate gland of reproductive organs were demonstrated. Ethanol- induced structural changes of the Stomach, Liver and Kidney associated with Biochemical parameters changes were shown, all the above-mentioned parameters were compared with control.
