Title: Comparative Study on Nutritional Status of Adolescent Girls 16 To 18 Yrs Residing At Home and Hostel

Abstract: The present study was conducted to assess the nutritional status of 600 adolescent girls of 16-18 years 300 each were residing at home and in hostel from urban and rural area of Parbhani district. To assess the nutritional status different parameters used were socio-economic status, anthropometry, food and nutrient intake, percent adequacy of food and nutrient intake .To assess the prevalence of anaemia, estimation of hemoglobin content was done. Age at attainment of menarche, common health problem during menarche, commonly observed deficiency symptoms, sanitation, health and hygiene were also assessed by personal interview method. The anthropometric status of selected adolescent girls was determined by recording height (cm), weight (kg), mid upper arm circumference (cm), waist circumference (cm), hip circumference (cm) and hip: waist ratio. BMI was calculated using value of height and weight. On the basis of BMI, adolescent girls were categorized into different grades of under nutrition. Daily food intake of each selected adolescent girls was recorded with the help of three day recall method and weightment method. Nutrient intake was calculated by using Nutritive value of Indian food book (Gopalan etal 2002). Percent adequacy of food intake was calculating using balance diet table for adolescent girls and percent adequacy of nutrient intake was done by using RDA table. The finding of study revealed that almost 40 percent of each adolescent girls from 16 and 17 years were residing at hostel and 54.00 percent and 40.67 percent of 16 and 17 years were residing in home whereas around 20 percent and 5.3 percent girls of 18 years were residing at hostel and home. Almost 80 percent girls from both residing places were belonging to nuclear family. Around 58.33 percent girls having 4-6 family members and 93.67 per cent adolescent girls were vegetarian.
