dc.description.abstract | Groundwater contamination has major threats for health and the environment all newlineover the world. Water, which is essential to all forms of life and makes about 50-97% of newlinethe weight of all plants and animals, is the most poorly managed resource in the world newline(Buchholz, 1998; Fakayode, 2005). The presence of fluoride in groundwater is due to newlinefluoride bearing minerals in the litho units, from which groundwater is circulated. The newlinepresence of fractures and joints or openings and the weathering of the litho units play newlinesignificant role in the dissolution of fluorine from minerals into the groundwater. newlineAnother important factor is the residence time duration that contact of groundwater in newlinethe aquifer system and subsurface or groundwater flow direction from recharge zone to newlinedischarge zone. newlineThe present study has been carried out to investigate the hydrogeochemistry and newlinegeo-environmental status of fluoride that contaminate groundwater by different geogenic newlinesources in parts of Rajura and Korpana tehsil areas of Chandrapur district. newlineThe aim of this study is to understand the geological, hydrogeological and soil newlinecharacteristics of the area as they play an important role on the chemical composition of newlinegroundwater specially focused on prevalence of fluoride level in the groundwater newlinesample. Habitations in the study area are widely dispersed and unlike urban areas newlinemonitoring and affected by endemic fluorosis. High fluoride in groundwater is present newlineespecially in peninsula and arid to semiarid region of northwestern India. newlineThe fluoride source and seasonal groundwater quality variation were studied by newlinecollecting 100 groundwater samples in the Rajura and Korpana tehsil area of newlineChandrapur district in Pre and post monsoon season of the year 2014 and 2015. The newlinephysicochemical characteristics i.e. pH, conductivity, alkalinity, hardness, Na+, K+, Mg+, newlineCa+, F-, Cl-, NO3 newline-, and SO4 newline- were studied. The values were compared with the standard newlinevalues of World Health Organization (WHO). The present investigation indicates that, newlinethe fluoride (F-) con | |
