Abstract: Communication behavior that reduces the physical and psychological distance between people is known as Immediacy . Previous studies have shown evidence that there is a relationship of teachers nonverbal immediacy behavior with students motivation and learning. The current descriptive correlation study was to examine the relationship between perceived teachers nonverbal immediacy with academic motivation, affective learning and teacher s performance of physical education students of Kerala. Participants of the study were students who opted Physical Education as an open course in the 5th semester of undergraduate program from the various affiliated colleges of 4 universities in Kerala, namely; Kannur University, University of Calicut, M.G University and University of Kerala. Purposive sampling method was used for selecting samples. 607 participants (male=504 and female=103) responded to three questionnaires, age ranged between 18 years to 25 years. The data was gathered by using three questionnaires namely; Nonverbal Immediacy Scale-Observer Report (NIS-O), Academic Motivation Scale (AMS-C 28) College Version and Measuring Affective Learning and Instructors Evaluation. The data was analyzed using software IBM SPSS version 20 to establish descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient. Results indicated that there is a significant moderate relationship of perceived teacher s nonverbal immediacy with intrinsic and extrinsic academic motivation, affective learning and teacher s performance of physical education students of Kerala. Results also indicated that there is a weak negative correlation between perceived teacher s nonverbal immediacy and Amotivation. Further, data analysis indicated the significant moderate relationship between intrinsic and extrinsic academic motivation. Intrinsic and extrinsic academic motivation were found to be significantly correlated with affective learning and perceived teacher s performance of physical education students of Kerala.
