Standardisation of Norms for the Practical Tests Conducted For Boys and Girls In The Age Group Of 14 To 19 In The State Of Goa

Abstract

Physical Testing is a integral part of a school education curriculum of Goa. A variety of practical tests are conducted by physical education teachers for the students, however there are no standardised norms available for any practical tests for the students of the State of Goa. Some of the practical tests conducted for the students are 100 Meters Run Test, 50 Meters Run Test, Standing Broad Jump Test, Vertical Jump Test, Shot Put Throw Test, Medicine Ball Throw Test, 10 Meters x 4 Repetition Test, etc. The purpose of the study is to develop Standardised norms for these tests for the age group of 14 to 19 which will help in proper grading of the students. The researcher selected 3 practical tests for the purpose of the current study namely 100 Meters Run Test, Standing Broad Jump Test and Shot Put Test as these were the most commonly used tests. A Total number of 2880 students were selected for the study which were divided equally into 1440 Boys and 1440 Girls. The main age group was further divided into 3 sub age groups of 14-15 years, 16-17 years and 18-19 years due to difference in growth and development that is seen in these age groups. Norms were created separately for each age group. Purposive Sampling Technique was used for selection of sample. Descriptive Statistics were computed for all age groups separately and data was analyzed using SPSS. Validity, Reliability and Objectivity were established for test and Standardised Norms were created using MicrosoftExcel. newline
