Socio Economic Impact of Antyodaya Anna Yojana on BPL Families in Kolhapur District of Maharashtra

Abstract

The study has comprehsively investigated the socio-economic impact of the newlineAntyodaya Anna Yojanain Kolhapur district. Researcher has identified certain socioeconomic newlineindicators and in the light of that indicators attempts are made to assess the newlinesocio-economic impact and working of Antyodaya Anna Yojanain Kolhapur district newlineof Maharashtra. The entire research work was based on grassroot level primary data newlineas well as secondary time series, cross section data. The main objectives of the present newlineresearch task were 1) To study the economic profile of Kolhapur district. 2) To study newlinethe working of Antyodaya Anna Yojanain Kolhapur district. 3) To study the socioeconomic newlinestatus of BPL families in Kolhapur district. 4) To study the impact of newlineAntyodaya Anna Yojanaon BPL families in Kolhapur district and 5) To suggest newlinemeasure or policies to improve the standard of living of BPL families in Kolhapur newlinedistrict. In order to fulfill these objectives, well design questionnaire schedule was newlineprepared for both beneficiaries and shopkeepers. The total 382 sample beneficiaries of newlineAAY from 12 tehsils of the Kolhapur district and 157 shopkeepers are interviewed for newlinethe rigorous study. The statement of problem was The Government of India and newlineState Governments have introduced several poverty alleviation programme after newlineindependence. Antyodaya Anna Yojana is also one of the anti-poverty schemes newlinestarted since 2000. Hence, it has successfully completed 18 years and now it is proper newlinetime to find out the impact of this scheme on the BPL mass with special reference to newlineKolhapur district. Study has mainly focused working of the AAY scheme in Kolhapur newlinedistrict and its impact on the BPL families . The major findings of the study reveal newlinethe fact that there is significant impact of AAY on the socio-economic lives of the newlineBPL mass in the study region. However, in case of certain indices such as saving, newlineinvestment, monthly expenditure, livelihood sources, education level, health newlineconditions, researcher has not noticed much more are improvement.
