In recent years the use of ferrocement laminate has become a newlinesubject of great interest in structural engineering community Ferrocement is a newlinetype of thin wall reinforced concrete commonly constructed of hydraulic newlinecement mortar reinforced with closely spaced layers of continuous and newlinerelatively small size wire mesh The mesh may be made of metallic or other newlinesuitable materials The fineness of mortar matrix and its composition should newlinebe compatible with the mesh and armature system it is meant to encapsulate newlineThe mortar may contain discontinuous fibres Due to the scarcity of natural newlinesand researches are concentrated over the new replacement material for sand newlineThe main requirement for replacing material is that the property of replacing newlinematerial should be the same as similar that of the property of replaced newlinematerial Steel slag is identified as one of the waste industrial by products newlinewhich can be used as a replacement material for fine aggregate in cement newlinemortar It has been understood from the literature that the load carrying newlinecapacity of existing structures can be improved by strengthening it with newlineferrocement laminates Also it has been observed from the literature that newlineproperties of ferrocement laminates can be improved by altering the newlineproportion and type of constituent materials newlineHowever studies to investigate the effect of steel slag in mortar and newlinedifferent volume fraction of mesh reinforcement in ferrocement laminate and newlineutilisation of such material for strengthening of structural elements and their newlineimpact on strength ductility impact resistance energy absorption capacity newlinehave not been carried out so far Hence there exists a technical knowledge newlinegap in this area newline newlineen_US
