Abstract: Literary texts contain a lot of meaningful contexts in which linguistic components such as newline lexical items and grammatical structures are used in a natural way. The students, thus, will newline be able to be exposed to a variety of linguistic uses and expressions. Literary texts serve newline as a good foundation for improving vocabulary and strengthening syntax. The objectives of newline communicative language teaching can be attained by accelerating interpretations, classroom newline discussions and interaction among students and with teachers. Literature provides plenty newline of opportunities for students to ameliorate syntactic, pragmatic, cultural and discourse newline awareness through instances of real life language in various situations. Poetry in the literary newline texts can be used as tools to enhance the communication skills of the students through newline activities such as oral communication, check questions, role plays, surveys and debates, etc. newline The role of a teacher is a facilitator to help students discover the richness of the language newline and instill in them a love for learning and reading Poetry. The students need to be active newline participants in the classroom. Poetry can be used to broaden the students horizons by newline giving them knowledge not only of the classics of literature but also of their creative and newline literary imagination. The study emphasizes the need to integrate literature into teaching newline and learning of English language, especially in relation to the mastery of speaking skills. newline The study aims at a broad study of the significant ways in which the exposure to poetry in literature improves the communication skills of the students so as to make them competent in academic performance as individuals and as members of the society. newline newline
