Abstract: Fingerprints are the friction ridge skin impressions of a human newlineThey are the complex patterns characterized by a set of ridge lines often flow newlinein parallel but intersect and terminate at some points Each person has a newlineunique set of fingerprints Thus they have been used as a personal signature newlinesince ancient time Because of this uniqueness property fingerprints are newlinemainly used in three areas such as forensic science security clearance and newlineanthropological medical studies The characteristics of friction ridge skin are newlinedetermined during fetal development Because the fingerprints are formed newlinedepending on the initial conditions of the embryonic mesoderm from which newlinethey develop and determined by the genome of the embryo So the formation newlineof fingerprints is genetically controlled Therefore the overall characteristic newlineis determined by the genetic factors In addition it also depends on the exact newlineposition of the fetus in the womb at a particular moment and the exact newlinecomposition and density of surrounding amniotic fluid newlineThe deformations and irregularities in the fingerprint are due to the newlinechange in the fluid position owing to differentiation process in the uterus So newlinethe finer details are expected because of the complex microenvironment that newlineis responsible for fingerprint uniqueness Since the formation is genetically newlinecontrolled the patterns are not totally random It has been acknowledged that newlinethe characteristics of fingerprints are having more similarities and correlation newlineamong the people of the same races compared to different races newline newline
