Abstract: | chemical industries and their processes. newlineFurther, various hydrogenation and dehydrogenation processes with their industrial relevance are newlinediscussed. Amongst several important processes, industrially important hydrogenation of newlinecinnamaldehyde to hydrocinnamaldehyde and dehydrocylization of 1,4-butanediol to - newlinebutyrolactone are discussed. Further, technological strategies towards catalytic hydrogenation newlineand dehydrogenation processes are explained. This chapter also provides a brief introduction on newlinethe commercial importance of hydrocinnamaldehyde and -butyrolactone. the main results described in the present thesis and draws newlineconclusions from them. Recommendations for future work in order to promote the sustainable newlineapproach towards catalytic hydrogenation and dehydrogenation are discussed in this chapter. By newlineand large, this thesis describes unique more effective supported transition metal-based catalysts newlinefor the selective hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde (a representative and#945;,and#946;-unsaturated aldehyde) to newlinehydrocinnamaldehyde and dehydrogenation of 1,4-butanediol (a biomass-derived compound) to newline-butyrolactone value-added industrial chemicals. Several surface engineering aspects served as newlinea purpose for modification of electronic properties of active metals to achieve desirable activity, newlineselectivity and stability of catalytic materials newline |
