Abstract: | ABSTRACT newlineIntroduction: newlineThe health and wellbeing of our children are extremely important not only for their lives now but also for their futures and ultimately for the future of our nation. The health of the children is related with child rearing knowledge and practices (CRKP). The child rearing practices comprises feeding practices as well as traditional practices followed during various stages of the child growth and development. There are so many factors which influence the child rearing practices like literacy socio economic status etc. All these practices are not based on any scientific evidences some practices are good but some practices do not have any benefit to the newborn instead of harmful. Sufficient quantity and balanced nutrition for the infant and early childhood is required to ensure good health and development of children full potential. Otherwise this creates vicious cycle of under nutrition and infection. If nutrition is not adequate it increases the risk of illness and this is somewhere directly or indirectly responsible for one third of deaths that occur in children below 5 years of age. The prevalence of acute malnutrition remains high and contributes to morbidity and mortality of children under five years in the country. newlineThe objectives of the study were to know the prevailing child rearing practices for children aged from 6 to 60 months to determine the association of child rearing practices with wasting and to suggest measures for promotion of IYCF practices in context to latest information technology (IT) based solutions. newlineMethods: newlineThe community based cross sectional study was conducted among 336 respondents with children of 6 to 59 months of rural Lucknow, through house to house visits and pretested interview schedule. Analysis of collected data was done using excel sheet and chi square test.
