Abstract: | The research scholar is associated with the nursing profession for the past 28 years and has had the exposure of working in the capacity of Staff Nurse to Nursing Administrator. She also has had the opportunity to work abroad, in the education field and clinical area as Chief of Nursing. The research scholar is trained as Simulation Instructor from The Institute of Medical Simulation, Boston and ACLS Instructor, AHA, USA. newlineClinical learning and critical thinking through extended immersion in Simulation is a new technique for learning. It involves use of simulation methodologies, use of molds, videos to enhance learning. Simulation based teaching found to be effective and beneficial to health care organization which in turn enhance skill and competency of health care workers to safeguard real life patients. Simulation is purely a technique used for repetitive practice and learning that can be implemented to different disciplines and trainees for training. newlineThe research scholar for the study purpose has come across the following areas of concern which she decided to carry out her research works. She was always under impression that classroom teaching in the form of lectures is the best method of teaching. But to her surprise she experienced that novice nurses competency and skills need to re-evaluate and retrain. The experienced nurses knew the procedure but the competency and skill need to sharpen. The nurses who were in the system were performing procedures but not up-to the expectation or the right intentThe defaulters in performing the right technique and right process were identified. There was significant difference in what is taught and what is practiced. The research scholar realized that the beneficiary were not benefited with regards to the orientation given by the health care providers to the clients. There was gaps in exposure of learners to actual situations. |
