Photocatalytic Applications of Metal Ions Doped Tio2 and Chalcogenides Modified Tio2 Nanostructures

Abstract

In the recent past, the environment has been devastated by various pollutants. The water pollutants are harmful to humans and other living organisms. Water pollution occurs due to contaminants like industrial waste and agricultural waste, discharged through water bodies. Water pollution can be prevented by filtration, sterilization and photocatalysis. Semiconductor photocatalysis is the best method for the degradation of pollutants in waste water. Most of the semiconductor photocatalysts are wide band gap materials, which are active only in Ultra-violet (UV) region. This thesis investigates the photocatalytic activity of metal oxide under visible light. The scope of this thesis is to study the properties of TiO2 and coupled TiO2 as active photocatalysts.
