dc.description.abstractThe study on interaction of waves with different marine structures yields valuable newlineinformation about different physical operations in the coastal environment. In this newlinethesis, the fluid-structure interaction problems are studied by solving Laplace equation newlinein both Cartesian and cylindrical polar coordinate system. In the case of thin porous newlinestructure the Darcy s law is employed, however, Sollitt and Cross model is employed newlinefor thick porous structures. The techniques employed in this study rely on appropriate newlineapplications of the eigenfunction expansion method, least-squares approximation method, newlineand multi-domain boundary element method. A set of problems involving the scattering newlineof surface waves by different breakwaters, particularly (i) rigid dock, (ii) porous structure, newline(iii) porous flexible membrane, (iv) porous cylinders, and (v) semicircular structure, is newlineinvestigated. Moreover, the phenomenon of wave trapping by a elastic porous membrane, newlinewhich is submerged horizontally is investigated newline
