The depletion of fossil fuels, coupled with major environmental issues related to newlinegreenhouse gas emissions, directed to the development of alternative energy systems such newlineas biodiesel, bioethanol etc., based on renewable and sustainable sources. Biodiesel, a newlinemixture of fatty acid methyl ester explicated as a feasible, non-toxic, biodegradable, newlinesustainable, and eco-friendly fuel amid the biofuels. Consequently, single cell oils (SCO) newline(or) microbial oils/lipids accumulated by oleaginous microorganisms inside their biomass newlineare considered to be promising feedstocks for green and sustainable biodiesel production. newlineThe strain Yarrowia lipolytica can utilise the hydrophobic substrates via the ex novo process. newlineThe utilisation and assimilation of the hydrophobic substrate are facilitated by the yeast newlinestrain s simultaneous synthesis of lipase and biosurfactant newline
