Abstract: newlineAbstract newlineThis study examines the emerging determinants and consequences of work engagement newlineamong Indian software developers. In order to achieve this objective, the study has first newlinedeveloped a reverse mentoring scale, thereafter integrating job demands and resources newlinemodel and social exchange theory categorized the determinants (reverse mentoring, job newlinecrafting, and subjective well-being) and consequences (work performance, work newlinewithdrawal behaviors, mental ill-health, and physical ill-health) into three conceptual newlinemodels (I, II, and III). Data were collected from 369 software developers in India using newlinea questionnaire survey. The results of the model I reveal that reverse mentoring and job newlinecrafting are positively related to work engagement, which, in turn, increases newlineperformance and decreases work withdrawal behaviors among the software developers. newlineWork engagement is found to partially mediate the association of job crafting and newlinereverse mentoring with work performance. In contrast, it fully mediates the relationship newlinebetween reverse mentoring and withdrawal behavior, and partially mediates the newlinerelationship between job crafting and withdrawal behavior. These findings suggest that reverse mentoring and job crafting can be effective methods for increasing work newlineengagement and subsequently performance and retention of employees. The results of newlinethe model II reveal that work engagement fully mediates the relationship between (a) newlinereverse mentoring and mental health and (b) job crafting and physical health, while it newlinepartially mediates the relationship between (a) reverse mentoring and physical health newlineand (b) job crafting and mental health.
