Abstract: Indian classical music is a repository of enormous folk tunes (dhun) serving as the foundation for various ragas. The current study successfully evaluated folk melodies prevalent in specific geographical areas, Jaatis and tribes thus shedding light on the origins of various folk tunes. This study establishes historical development of standardised ragas like Malkouns, Darbari, Bhairav, Todi etc from folk tunes. Theoretical and practical approach of all folk tunes like Pahari, bhairvi, maand etc converting into ragas and their Impact on all other forms of Indian music has also been explored and highlighted. newline
