dc.description.abstract | Endocrinal disorders are at an alarming increase in the present day. Hypothyroidism is one of the most prevalent diseases among endocrinal disorders. Hypothyroidism is mainly diagnosed basing on laboratory diagnostic values along with subjective symptoms. Decreased thyroid hormone levels along with increased TSH value diagnose primary hypothyroidism. Sub-clinical hypothyroidism is more common and if this is not managed properly it leads to overt hypothyroidism. In Ayurdeva there is no specific disease that can be correlated to hypothyroidsm. Depending on the symptoms, the dosha dushya vivechana is assessed and is understood as kapha avruta udana vata . According to modern science, supplement of levothyroxine in appropriate dose is the standard line of treatment. Yet, many side-effects are encountered with levothyroxine that decrease the quality of life of patients. Hence Kanchanara Gutika, a classical yoga indicated in galaganda was selected from Bhaishajya Ratnavali for the present study. | |
