Abstract: The largest groups of marine invertebrates as a source of secondary metabolites are the sponges The structurally diverse varieties of metabolites have high therapeutic potential to treat human diseases and have made them worthy of research for marine natural products The phylum Porifera includes three classes which are primarily distinguished by their skeleton characteristics namely Hexactinellida Calcarea and Demospongiae Class Demospongia have been the largest reported source of secondary metabolites Natural products today are most likely going to continue to exist and grow to become even more valuable as sources of new drug leads In the present study a brief survey on the sponges types available in Gulf of Mannar zone was made In this study about 2 species of sponges were identified to inhabit this area The sponges were identified using meristic and morphometic characteristics The sponge species which have confusion in conventional taxonomical study were subjected to 18S rRNA genomic sequencing studies The fraction of the column that showed a good separation was further eluted and the content was concentrated In the 16th and 18th fraction of the column a green and rose luminescent compound was observed newline
