dc.description.abstractThis thesis presents detailed account on spatio-temporal variations in 1) newlinegeochemistry of global and Indian mafic magmatism providing reflections on newlinegeochemical evolution of mantle at Indian Subcontinent and at global scale, 2) newlinegeochemistry of global and Indian fine-grained sedimentary rocks providing newlinereflections on geochemical evolution of Upper Continental Crust (UCC) at Indian newlineSubcontinent and at global scale. The thesis is arranged in seven chapters. Chapter newlineI, entitled Introduction, describes the generation, composition and evolution of newlineUCC and mantle, objectives of work and methodology adopted. In the Chapter II, newlineentitled Source and Process Control on Geochemistry of Mafic Igneous and newlineSedimentary Rocks, we have discussed the control of mantle and crustal sources newlineand processes on geochemistry of igneous and sedimentary rocks. The Chapter III, newlineentitled Evolution of Mafic Magmatism from Indian Subcontinent in Space and newlineTime: Reflections on Mantle Evolution, describes the geochemical changes newlineoccurred in the basaltic rocks from India through time reflecting on physical and newlinechemical evolution of mantle contributing to basaltic magmatism while Chapter IV, newlineentitled Evolution of Indian Fine-grained Sedimentary Rocks in Space and Time: newlineReflections on Evolution of UCC, describes the geochemical changes occurred in newlinethe fine-grained sedimentary rocks from India reflecting on evolution of UCC newlinethrough time. Similar to Chapters III and IV the Chapter V, entitled Evolution of newlineGlobal Mafic Magmatism in Space and Time: Reflections on Mantle Evolution newlineand Chapter VI entitled Evolution of Global Fine-grained Sedimentary Rocks in newlineSpace and Time: Reflections on Evolution of UCC describe the geochemical newlinechanges occurred in the basaltic and fine-grained sedimentary rocks from globe newlinerespectively reflecting on evolution of mantle and UCC through time. In Chapter newlineVII, entitled Summary and Conclusions we have summarized significant outcomes newlineof the thesis. newline
