Abstract: | Aim: Identify, separate and evaluate active phytoconstituents of selected medicinal newlineplants and to explore the hepatoprotective and antioxidant potential. newlineMethod: Plant materials were collected in and around places of Marathwada region, newlineNanded District (Maharashtra), India and were identified and authenticated by newlineDepartment of Botany, Science College, Nanded. Extraction of plants by using solvents newlineof increasing polarity using Soxhlet extraction technique. Preliminary phytochemical newlineevaluation performed by qualitative analysis of extract for presence of alkaloids, newlineglycoside, flavonoids, tannins, saponins and phenolic compounds. Total phenolic (Gallic newlineacid equivalent) and total flavonoid (Quercetin equivalent) content (mg/g) in extract of P. newlinespicigera and C. emarginata were standardized for total phenolics and flavonoids content. newlineThe series of In-vitro antioxidant assay such as DPPH, ABTS, superoxide radicalscavenging newlineactivity, total antioxidant capacity and ferric reducing assay were carried out newlinefor evaluation of free radical scavenging ability of P. spicigera and C. emarginata extracts. newlineFraction of successive extracts of P. spicigera and C. emarginata were evaluated for invivo newlinehepatoprotective activity in acute CCl4-induced hepatotoxicity in rats for 7 days. newlineSerum biochemical parameters like serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT), newlineserum glutamic-pyruvic transaminase (SGPT), serum bilirubin (SB), total protein (TP) newlineand albumin (ALB) were determined. Isolation of possible phytoconstituents from ethyl newlineacetate extract of P. spicigera and ethanol extract of C. emarginata were performed. newlineFractions were collected from ethyl acetate extract of P. spicigera and ethanol extract of newlineC. emarginata using column. Column was eluted with solvents of varying polarity. newlineColumn fractions were monitored with TLC and similar fractions were combined and newlinefurther processed to yield the isolation of compounds. The isolated compounds were newlinecharacterized by using suitable spectral techniques (UV, FTIR, NMR and Mass) in order newlineto confirm thei |
