Abstract: | Since the advent of world cinema, Indian cinema enthusiastically counted its presence. Just like the other tools of media, cinema also marked its presence by inculcating and#8215;strategic thinking in the nation. A film tries to highlight key social issues and themes, as well as recognize the logic of representations. We can look at films with an eye on the depiction of these issues. We can also think about the impact of such films on our own thinking about our social location and expectations. newlineThe researcher is exploring the idea of surrogacy presented through Indian cinema. Surrogacy means a relationship in which one woman bears and gives birth to a child for a person or a couple who then adopts or takes legal custody of the child; also called mothering by proxy. In surrogate motherhood, one woman acts as a surrogate, or replacement, mother for another woman, sometimes called the intended mother, who either cannot produce fertile eggs or cannot carry a pregnancy through to birth, or term. newlineWith the ban of transnational commercial surrogacy in India in 2016 it fetched the attention of all around the world. and#8215;Ananda a place in Gujrat which was popular for its milk production became the hub of commercial surrogates in India. For exploring the idea of surrogacy as presented in films, the researcher studies the representation of surrogacy in the selected films. This study not only provides a tool for film analysis, but new ways of watching films versus the classic linear or sequential watching, causing a similar effect in the watcher: discovering a new and deeper way of understanding a film. newline |
