Abstract: In this thesis the fabrication of surface composites using solid-state techniques has been newlinedescribed through Formation of Self-Assembled Monolayer (SAM) on the Aluminium Alloy newlinesurface via Friction Stir Processing techniques. It would help the researchers to understand the newlinetechnique to get better mechanical properties by minimizing the nanoparticles reinforcement. newlineThe contents of the thesis are as follows: newlineFirst chapter: - This chapter introduces surface modification and surface composite of the newlinematerials; classification of surface modification and various processing technique for newlinemodifying the surface of the substrate materials. It gives an idea about various research gaps newlineexisting in fabrication of aluminum alloys based matrix surface composites. Further, the newlineresearch motivation for the present research work is also discussed. newlineSecond chapter: - This chapter is on the literature review of composites and surface newlinecomposites of aluminum alloy by various solid state processing techniques. It also discusses newlinevarious methods of filling reinforcement particles for the advancement of aluminum alloy metal newlinematrix surface composites by Friction stir processing. Advantages, limitations and applications newlineof the Friction Stir Processing are discussed. It also includes analysis of research gap, objective newlineof the research work and plan of research work. newlineThird Chapter: - This chapter discusses the residual stresses analysis of Friction stir newlineprocessing tool using modelling and simulation through ABAQUS software. It also includes newlinethe details of tool materials and fabrication of FSW/FSP tool using CNC machine. newlineFourth Chapter: - This chapter deals with the selection of substrate (base) material, FSW/FSP newlinetool material and reinforcement powder. This chapter also includes the preparation of substrate newlinematerial through Self-Assembled Monolayer (SAM) technique followed by Friction Stir newlineProcessing to fabricate the surface composites. The detailed mechanical, microstructure, newlineresidual stress and wear testing procedures are presented. newlineFifth chapter: - This chapter discusses the details for finding the optimum process parameter newlineand effect of process parameters for obtaining the maximum hardness and tensile properties of newlinethe fabricated surface composite through the Taguchi technique. The microstructure, newlinemicrohardness, and tensile properties of the Al-B4C surface composite are discussed. This newlinechapter also investigates the measurement of residual stresses and wear properties of fabricated newlinealuminum based metal matrix surface composites. newlinevi newlineSixth chapter: - It summarizes present research investigation for the successfully fabricated newlinealuminum metal matrix surface composites through Self-Assembled Monolayer followed by newlineFriction Stir Processing with B4C nanoparticle reinforcement, and the effect of tool pin profiles newlineand process parameter. This chapter also introduces the future scope for further research in this newlinefield. Significant findings have been drawn from performed experimentation. newline
