Abstract: | In Tamil Nadu fishing is a significant livelihood and constitutes an newlineimportant source of income for 8 38 lakhs fishermen living in the coastal area newlineNowadays the fishermen community is facing difficulties in identifying newlinesuitable fishing ground for fishing because of global climate change and newlineoverfishing Forecast of potential fishing grounds to the fishermen community newlinewill solve this problem who can target species in a particular place which newlineintern is likely to save considerable amounts of fuel and time involved in newlinemarine fishing operations and making the operation more profitable Hence newlinethis study concentrate on species wise prediction of Potential Fishing Zone newline PFZ mapping In this context two surface feeding herbivores Oil sardine newline Sardinella longiceps and Indian Mackerel Rastrelliger kanagurtha are newlineconsidered for analysis which contributes around 36 of total landings in newlineTamil Nadu CMFRI annual report 2011 newlineOcean environmental parameters derived from satellites play an newlineimportant role in fisheries applications as they provide information over vast newlinestretches In this study the study area is Nagapttinam district of Tamil Nadu newlineIndia Satellite based oceanographic data of Sea Surface Temperature SST newlinesea surface Chlorophyll a concentration CHL and Photosynthetically newlineAvailable Radiation PAR together with fish catch data were used to newlineinvestigate the relationship between the above variables and Sardine and newlineMackerel landings newline |
