Abstract: | Background: Non-communicable diseases are the biggest public health challenge of this century, and obesity is one of the major risk factors which predisposes rapidly towards Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). Adolescence is treated as a transition period from childhood to adulthood. The study was undertaken to assess the eeffectiveness of educational intervention on knowledge, attitude and practice on obesity among obese adolescents in selected government schools of Kancheepuram District, Tamil Nadu.Methods and Material: Hundred Obese adolescents, both male and female between the age groups of 13 and 15 years were selected from Chennai school by stratified random sampling technique. Information was collected by pre structured self-administered questionnaire. The data obtained was subjected for analysis by using descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. Results: Experimental group the Difference in the level of Knowledge was confirmed by the repeated measures of ANOVA F=133.66, p=0.001. Mean attitude score in pre-test 22.03±7.97,post-test I 36.83±6.84 and Post test I43.93±6.84 and Mean practice score in pre-test 31.54±5.91,Post-test II 46.04±7.42 demonstrated the effectiveness of educational intervention on knowledge, attitude and practice level among experimental group. In experiment group statistically significant Moderate and fair positive correlation was found between knowledge, attitude and practice. There was statistically significant association between knowledge, attitude and practice gain scores and demographic variables like age, gender, and educational status of child, type of family, family history of obesity, and type of problem at pand#8804;0.05 level. Conclusions: Screening helps in early identification of obesity. Educational intervention had significant impact on obese adolescents knowledge, attitude and practice. |
