Title: Life Satisfaction Implications of Temperamental and Situational Variables for Rotational Assignees

Abstract: In the present globalized world, it is not uncommon to work remotely since we are living in a world which is characterized by virtual workplaces. However, working remotely in a setup which permits limited interaction with the outside world is relatively unexplored. Therefore, the objective of this mixed-method newlinestudy was to gain insights on the implications of the temperamental and newlinesituational variables on the life satisfaction of rotational assignees. Since the research adopted a mixed method approach, the philosophy used for the same newlinewas pragmatism which believes that the reality is changing constantly. Sailors sailing onboard merchant ships were chosen as the respondents for this newlinestudy due to their typical work conditions as their workspace is mobile, unlike newlinetraditional workplaces. The study explored the relationship between newlinepersonality, workplace loneliness, perceived organizational support, work-life newlinebalance and life satisfaction. The pertinent hypotheses were derived from the newlineobjectives. The quantitative phase of the research is mainly formulated to newlineemphasize on data collection and analyses. The study population comprised of newlinesailors sailing on merchant ships and the data was collected using mixed mode newlineusing online and offline media. A descriptive cross-sectional survey was used newlineand data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. For newlinethe qualitative study a series of semi-structured interviews with twenty seamen newlinesailing across ranks in different organizations to yield thematic results were newlineconducted. The results from the quantitative and qualitative data were merged or connected in the discussion phase. The qualitative findings added richness to the quantitative findings. Data analysis suggests that workplace loneliness was found to be a major newlinepredictor for life satisfaction. Not all personality traits were significant with newlinelife satisfaction and work-life balance. Perceived organization support too emerged as a significant predictor for life satisfaction.
