Role of trade unions in regulating industrial relations in India a study

Abstract

The thesis is a detailed study, which includes the genesis of trade unions and their development from past to present. Trade unions play a key role not only in regulating industrial relations but are also important in establishing industrial peace and harmony. The study analyses the role of trade unions in regulating industrial relations along with assessing the current position of trade unions in the era of globalisation. The study includes social and legal developments with respect to trade unions in India. It discusses in detail the history and development of trade unions, the scenario of trade unions and industrial relations in India, the role of ILO and its impact on labour laws in India, a comparative analysis has been drawn between Indian labour laws and labour laws of other countries, the Constitutional and legislative position of labour laws and industrial relations has been studied in depth, empirical study concerning the present status of trade unions in the state of Himachal Pradesh has been included. The study includes suggestions that could be useful in establishment of ideal industrial relations in India. newline
