dc.description.abstractThe study is an attempt to highlight various prominent issues faced by women deserted by their husbands and in-laws and suggest suitable remedial measures. newlineThe study is divided into six chapters. Chapter I elaborates the basic concept of deserted women within broad perspective of single women. Chapter II highlights various predicaments faced by deserted women in India focusing particularly on the problems of deserted women of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh..Chapter III The aim of this chapter is to have a firsthand account of the experiences of women with respect to their desertion and their ways of dealing with it. Chapter IV throws light on various provisions of existing protective mechanisms available for women. Chapter V traces the development of rights activism concerning single women around the world focusing majorly on the activism in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. Chapter VI elaborates the conclusions drawn to bring to light key areas of concern of deserted women from a human rights perspective. newline newline
