dc.description.abstractIndustry 4.0 has ushered in a new dimension for the business environment. The business newlineworld has become smaller and competition is increasing. More so, the Indian industry newlineis facing a bigger challenge. In addition to cost competitiveness, Indian products have newlineto meet the quality challenges posed by the competitors and the customers. Known to newlineproduce lower grade products in the twentieth century, the manufacturing industry has newlineto first erase the lower grade image and then prove that the products can meet bot h newlinequality and cost challenges. The most appropriate solution is to first improve product newlinequality and then win the coveted quality awards. The Deming prize is one such newlinetestimonial, which any industry can boast of in the international market. Post newlineliberalization, the Indian manufacturing companies studied the evaluation process of newlinevying for the Deming Prize. The adoption of Total Quality Management (TQM) as a newlinemanagement philosophy is a tool which can help the industry to improve product newlinequality, reduce cost and improve other business parameters. The Indian companies newlinestudied the evaluation criteria of the Deming Prize and adopted TQM as a methodology newlineto improve their business performance. Some Indian manufacturing companies were newlineable to win this award in the last few years. newline newline
