The aim of the research done was to study mosquito repellant activity, newlineirritation and sensitivity of leaf extract of selected plants and evaluation of newlineformulation. The mosquito repellent activity of Duranta plumieri and Pogostemon newlinebenghalensis was studied against Culex quinquefasciatus. The purpose behind the newlineselection of plants was their reported ethno botanical and traditional use. Successive newlineextraction was carried out with different solvents. Extracts were prepared by newlinemacerating the samples successively at room temperature for 24 hours with petroleum newlineether (PE), chloroform, acetone, ethanol and water. These extracts were further newlinescreened for mosquito repellent activity. Repellency test and Tunnel test design was newlineused to evaluate the mosquito repellent activity. It was revealed that chloroform newlineextract of leaves of Duranta plumieri and acetone extract of leaves of Pogostemon newlinebenghalensis at the concentration of 5% showed good mosquito repellent effect. newlineSelected plant extracts of Duranta plumieri and Pogostemon benghalensis were newlineevaluated for skin irritation and sensitivity using rabbits and guinea pigs as newlineexperimental animal respectively. All experiments and protocols described in present newlinestudy were approved by Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) (Approval newlineNo.2068/PO/ReRc/S/19/CPCSEA) of University Institute of Pharma Sciences, newlineChandigarh University, Mohali. Erythema and edema was scored within the range of newline0-4 and 0-3 respectively with 0 showing no effect and 4 representing severe newlinesymptoms. newline
