In introductory chapter, I have focused on environment, ecology and different issues concerned. Before going to know about Ecology, first of all we should know about environment. Environment is the external conditions and influences which affect the life and development of organisms in it s natural habitat. But ecology is the interaction of living organisms with the non-living environment to form a stable and self supporting system. Now we see imbalance in ecology due to degradation of environment putting a great question before the world thinkers how to save the mother earth from different types of environmental hazards and restore the harmony of nature as the situation is becoming graver. In ancient time, our fore fathers were well aware about the environment and ecology since vedic and pre-vedic period. They believed that, everything found in the environment is for the wellbeing of the human race. Any disturbances among those will disturb the harmony of nature, because nature is united whole. They were worshipping the nature. But to-day in the name of development, we are destroying it. In turn, we are facing different out-ragings of nature in violent forms which are not seen before. newline newlineI have tried to show two metaphysical models, i.e.; Realism, which paves the way for materialistic attitude and Idealism, which paves the ways for spiritualistic attitude have created two cultural patterns, i.e.; mechanistic and vitalistic, which are conflicting with each other in a set up, failing to promote humanism; which keeps the interest of human beings and ecology intact. newline newline
