Abstract: newline Conclusion newlineOur findings showed that phytoestrogens from the medicinal plants (Cupressus newlinesempervirens, Butea monosperma and murraya koenigii ) act in a similar manner to that newlinelike estroge n in utilization of glucose in skeletal mucles cells. BA, BSD, K051, K039 and newlineK012 all the phytoestrogenic molecules activate the P- I- 3- kinase cascade either alone or newlinesynergistically with insulin in stimulation of glucose utilization along with GLUT4 newlinetranslocation in skeletal muscle cells. In mice model of insulin resistance BA have shown newlinean improvement in oral glucose tolerance and amelio rates insulin resistance in skeletal newlinemuscle, adipose tissue and liver showing potentials for the management of peripheral newlineinsulin resistan ce. These findings altogether suggests that phytoestrogens have potentials newlinefor development as antidiabetic agent for t he management of peripheral insulin resistance newlineand associated complications.
