Abstract: Post liberalization in 1990s, manufacturing sector as well as the service sector has newlineimmensely contributed to the nation s economy. For many multinational companies, newlineIndia has emerged as an important and crucial source for manufacturing and newlinedelivering state of the art engineering and services with high value addition. newlineAutomobile sector occupies a predominant position in Indian manufacturing industry. newlineIndia s dynamic automotive industry is not only meeting burgeoning domestic newlinedemand but is also an important link in the automotive chain in global context. newlineAlmost 31 percent of small cars sold globally are manufactured in India - the only newlinecountry among top seven car markets globally to achieve double digit growth rate of newline11 per cent during Jan-May 2017. Indian automotive industry (including component newlinemanufacturing) is expected to reach Rs16.16-18.18 trillion (US$ 251.4-282.8 billion) newlineby 2026 according to report of (IBEF 2018). However, developing industrialization in newlinewhich automotive industry has a major role has accompanied growing pollution and newlinethreats to sustainable environment. Corporate involvement, lagging and ineffective newlinelegislation and poor policy implementation have further aggravated environment newlineconcerns. In 2016, India ranked 141 out of 180 countries (score: 53.58) on the newlineEnvironmental Performance Index of the Yale Center for Environmental Law and newlinePolicy (BTI 2018). newline
