Abstract

Rapid economic growth is synonymous with producing negative environmental newlineexternalities like, depletion of common resources, public health, environmental newlinedegradation, air-pollution and global warming. As societies develop, they tend to newlinepractice non-agricultural activities, commune in urban settlements and increasingly newlinedisplay greater dependency on fossil fuels for their domestic, industrial, mobility and newlineentertainment needs. World over, this differential access of resources and economic newlineoutputs has created a disparity of sorts, traditionally understood as the North-South newlineeconomic and political divide. A green or low-carbon economy is argued to offer an newlinealternative paradigm for future development that is ecologically sound and fosters newlinesocial equity. newline
