Abstract: | Occupational structure of a country refers to the division of its workforce engaged in different economic activities and the employment pattern is the division of workforce employed in different sectors and subsectors of the economy. These two structures taken together give the complete overview of the labour force in the economy. Accelerating growth and expanding employment opportunities are the goals of economic policy to fulfill the objective of balanced growth. According to the work of Colin Clark, there is a close relationship between balanced economic development and the occupational structure of a country. In order to delve into the occupational structure and employment pattern of the major states in India post the economic reforms and liberalisation era, using the Employment and Unemployment Survey (EUS) data conducted by the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) this comparative study seeks to showcase a detailed analytical picture of the diverse occupational structure and employment pattern across Indian states and factors contributing to the observed variations. Further, it also seeks to analyse the pattern and extent of feminisation of labour force across the major Indian states. newline |
